June 2026 does not ease you in gently. Curve Theatre alone hosts three separate productions this month — and one of them is the world opening night of Matthew Bourne's The Car Man, a production that has not toured since 2015 and is going on to visit Sadler's Wells London for five weeks before heading to Amsterdam. It opens here. At Curve. On 15 June. That is the kind of thing that normally gets written about after the fact, and the kind of thing Leicester should be talking about right now. Alongside it: Priscilla Queen of the Desert, a brand new musical, eight shows at De Montfort Hall, three evenings at Leicester Racecourse, and a Gallagher Premiership rugby season reaching its climax.
The breadth of June's calendar is the thing. De Montfort Hall opens the month with Jimmy Carr doing two shows in a single night and closes it with Rumours of Fleetwood Mac on the 25th. In between: Austentatious's improvised Jane Austen comedy, The Musical Box celebrating Phil Collins-era Genesis, a LOROS charity concert, ShxtsNGigs bringing their podcast-comedy homecoming to Leicester, and Lord of the Dance marking its 30th anniversary across four days and five performances. A full month of headline events in a city that is — right now, in June 2026 — genuinely worth being in.
🎭 Curve Theatre — June 2026
Curve on Rutland Street — Leicester's flagship producing theatre — hosts three productions across June 2026, making it the busiest single venue in the city this month. A new musical, a landmark dance theatre world tour opening, and a classic West End crowd-pleaser fill almost every week. Note: the Rutland Street NCP remains closed. Check curveonline.co.uk for current parking guidance before you travel. Box office: 0116 242 3595.
Public — The Musical opens at Curve Leicester on Saturday 30 May 2026 and runs through to Saturday 13 June, making it the first show of June's calendar. A bold, laugh-out-loud new musical exploring human connection with sharp comedy — Curve's first full production following the world premiere of Bank of Dave The Musical in May. The show plays both evening performances and matinees through the first two weekends of June.
This is Curve programming new work after a world premiere. That is the story of what Curve is doing right now — and Public is the bridge between the Bank of Dave moment and the arrival of Matthew Bourne in the third week of the month. Book now for the first or second weekend of June.
This is the headline event of Leicester's entire June — and arguably the most significant booking Curve has had in years. Matthew Bourne's multi-award-winning dance thriller The Car Man returns for a major 2026 UK tour, and it opens right here at Curve Leicester on Monday 15 June 2026. This is the first time the production has toured since 2015. Before it goes to Sadler's Wells in London for five weeks, before it goes to Amsterdam — it opens in Leicester. That is not a minor detail.
The story is set in a greasy 1950s American garage-diner, where the dreams of a small town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome, enigmatic stranger. Loosely based on Bizet's opera Carmen, the show features one of the most instantly recognisable scores in British dance theatre — musical arrangements by Terry Davies using Rodion Shchedrin's Carmen Suite. Directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne. Designed by Olivier and Tony Award-winner Lez Brotherston. Lighting by Chris Davey.
The title role of Luca — "The Car Man" — is shared by Will Bozier and Harrison Dowzell, both former lead Swans in Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. Cordelia Braithwaite and Ashley Shaw alternate as Lana. The production sold out its 2022 Royal Albert Hall run. Leicester gets the full tour production first. Evening performances Tuesday through Saturday, matinees Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Six days. Do not miss this.

"I never dreamed when we created this show at the beginning of the new millennium that it would still be around, thrilling audiences 25 years later. I can't wait to re-visit the hot and steamy town of Harmony USA — the best place to be next summer."
— Matthew Bourne, on the return of The Car Man
Priscilla Queen of the Desert — based on the 1994 Oscar-winning Australian film — closes out Curve's June in the final week of the month. The glittery, feel-good smash musical follows three performers crossing the Australian outback in a bus named Priscilla, featuring a magnificent soundtrack of ABBA, Kylie Minogue, Tina Turner, and many more. Six performances only, running Monday 22 to Saturday 27 June 2026. It follows directly from The Car Man's run with no gap — Curve's June is essentially one continuous programme of high-calibre productions.
